One of the primary goals of the Smoketree Aquatics Committee was to ensure that Smoketree Pool served as the embodiment of community spirit we want in our neighborhoods. One of the ways we wanted to foster that spirit was to go back to hiring teens and young adults from our community to serve as lifeguards at Smoketree. We felt like that was important and we're glad our members agree. In our recent member survey, 93% felt like it was important to have community members serving as guards
"Love that we know the lifeguards when we walk in. And they have been members of the pool before so they want to take care of it and give back." – Anonymous Survey Comment
"I like the community feel to having life guards that the younger children know, and how it contributes to a sense of belonging and plants the seeds for future service/work for their neighborhood." – Anonymous Survey Comment
We're also proud that our members recognize the great job our guards have been doing. With 111 responses on our member survey — our lifeguards were rated 4.3 stars out of 5! This is a testament to a committed group of guards and excellent leadership from our Managing Lifeguard, James Flowers, and our Staff and Facilities Manager, Chrissie Callis.

As summer starts to draw to a close, many of our college-age guards will soon be heading back to school. Please take a moment and thank all of the guards for a job well done. Let them know you appreciate their service to Smoketree and would love them to return next season!
